Office 365 Refund Guide: How to Get Your Money Back

Everything you need to know about Microsoft's refund policy for Office 365 — eligibility, timelines, and exactly how to submit a refund request.

Getting a refund from Microsoft for an Office 365 charge is possible, but only under specific conditions. Understanding the refund policy before you contact support will save you time and improve your chances of success.

Microsoft's standard refund window is 30 days from the date of purchase for annual subscriptions. If you purchased an annual plan and request a refund within 30 days, you are generally entitled to a full refund. Monthly subscriptions are typically not eligible for partial refunds once the billing period has started.

To request a refund, sign in to account.microsoft.com and navigate to 'Order history'. Find the relevant charge, click on it, and select 'Request a refund'. Fill in the reason for your refund request and submit.

If the self-service refund option is not available for your order, contact Microsoft Billing Support directly at 1-800-msn. Explain that you were charged unexpectedly or that you wish to cancel within the refund window. Have your order number and payment details ready.

Refunds are typically processed within 3–5 business days and returned to the original payment method. If you paid by credit card, it may take an additional 5–7 days for the amount to appear on your statement depending on your bank.

Common reasons for refund eligibility include: accidental purchase, duplicate charge, auto-renewal you were unaware of, or a product that did not work as advertised. Documenting your reason clearly increases the likelihood of approval.
