How to Cancel Your Office 365 Subscription — Step-by-Step Guide

A complete walkthrough for cancelling your Microsoft 365 or Office 365 subscription without losing your data, including what happens after cancellation.

Cancelling your Office 365 subscription is straightforward once you know where to look. Many users struggle to find the cancellation option because Microsoft buries it within the account settings. This guide walks you through every step.

Step 1: Sign in to your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com using the email address linked to your Office 365 subscription.

Step 2: Click on 'Services & subscriptions' from the top navigation menu. You will see a list of all active Microsoft subscriptions tied to your account.

Step 3: Find your Office 365 or Microsoft 365 plan and click 'Manage'. On the next screen, look for the 'Cancel' option and follow the prompts to confirm cancellation.

After cancellation, you retain access to Office apps and OneDrive storage until the end of your current billing period. Your files are not deleted immediately — Microsoft keeps them for 30 days after the subscription ends, giving you time to download or transfer them.

If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you must cancel directly through those platforms, not through Microsoft's website. Check your device's subscription settings to manage those.

If you face any difficulty cancelling, contact Microsoft support at 1-800-msn or use the live chat at support.microsoft.com. Keep a record of your cancellation confirmation for future reference.
