Refund Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
This page outlines Microsoft's refund policy for Office 365 / Microsoft 365 subscriptions as understood by Office 365 Consumer Voice. This is an independent consumer guide — not an official Microsoft document. Always verify current policy at microsoft.com.
30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
Microsoft offers a 30-day refund policy for most Office 365 and Microsoft 365 subscription plans purchased directly from Microsoft. If you are within 30 days of your initial purchase, you are generally entitled to a full refund upon request.
Eligible Purchases
Refunds typically apply to subscriptions purchased directly from Microsoft (microsoft.com or the Microsoft Store). Purchases made through third-party retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, etc.) are subject to that retailer's own refund policy.
How to Request a Refund
To request a refund: (1) Sign in to account.microsoft.com and go to Order History. (2) Find the relevant purchase and click 'Request a refund'. Alternatively, contact Microsoft support by phone on 1-800-msn or via live chat at support.microsoft.com.
Refunds After 30 Days
After the 30-day window, refunds are at Microsoft's discretion. Refunds may still be granted in cases of: unauthorised or fraudulent charges, charges after a confirmed cancellation, or duplicate billing errors. Always request a refund in writing and keep records of all communications.
Auto-Renewal Charges
Microsoft subscriptions auto-renew by default. If you were charged on renewal and were not notified, contact Microsoft support immediately. Microsoft is required to provide advance notice of auto-renewal charges in many jurisdictions.
Disputing a Charge
If Microsoft refuses a refund you believe you are entitled to, you can dispute the charge with your bank or card provider (chargeback). Provide evidence of the charge, your cancellation confirmation, and any correspondence with Microsoft support.
