How to Cancel MS Office 365

Want to know how to cancel MS Office 365? This independent guide shows how to cancel your Office 365 (Microsoft 365) subscription, turn off auto-renewal and check refund options. Not affiliated with Microsoft.

To cancel Microsoft 365 (Office 365), sign in at account.microsoft.com/services, go to Services & subscriptions, find your plan, click Manage, then Cancel. For business plans, use the Microsoft 365 admin centre at admin.microsoft.com. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, cancel there instead. You keep access until the end of your paid period.

Cancel before your renewal date

Cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid being charged for the next period. After cancellation you retain access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Cancel a Personal or Family plan

Microsoft 365 Personal and Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions are managed through your Microsoft account.

1

Sign in to your Microsoft account

Go to account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the email address linked to your subscription.

2

Open Services & subscriptions

Click 'Services & subscriptions' in the top menu. All active subscriptions are listed here.

3

Find your Microsoft 365 plan

Locate Microsoft 365 Personal or Family in the list and click 'Manage'.

4

Turn off recurring billing or cancel

Click 'Cancel' or 'Turn off recurring billing'. Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm.

5

Save your confirmation email

Microsoft sends a cancellation confirmation email. Keep it as proof in case of future billing disputes.

Cancel a Business plan (admin centre)

Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, and enterprise plans are managed by an administrator through the Microsoft 365 admin centre.

1

Sign in to the admin centre

Go to admin.microsoft.com and sign in with your admin account.

2

Go to Billing → Your products

In the left navigation, click 'Billing', then 'Your products'. Find the subscription you want to cancel.

3

Select the subscription and cancel

Click the subscription name, then select 'Cancel subscription'. Follow the prompts to confirm.

4

Assign or export data before cancellation

Before cancelling, ensure all users have exported their data (emails, OneDrive files). Access is removed when the subscription ends.

Cancel if you subscribed through Apple App Store or Google Play

If you originally subscribed to Microsoft 365 through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you must cancel through that platform — not through Microsoft's website.

Apple (iPhone / iPad / Mac)

1

iPhone / iPad (App Store)

Open Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → find Microsoft 365 → tap Cancel Subscription.

2

Mac (App Store)

Open the App Store → click your name at the bottom left → View Information → Manage (next to Subscriptions) → Cancel.

Google (Android)

1

Android (Google Play)

Open the Google Play app → tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → find Microsoft 365 → Cancel subscription.

Retailer product keys

If you purchased a one-time product key from a retailer (such as a boxed copy or a digital code from Amazon, Currys, or similar), there is no recurring subscription to cancel. The licence is valid for the period stated on the key. Simply do not redeem a new key when it expires. If you were charged unexpectedly after a retailer purchase, contact the retailer directly.

What happens to your files after cancelling?

When your Microsoft 365 subscription ends, the Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) enter a reduced-functionality mode — you can read documents but not edit them. OneDrive storage is reduced to the free 5 GB tier; files above that limit become read-only and are eventually deleted after 30 days. Download and back up any files you need before your subscription ends. Your Microsoft account and any emails in Outlook.com remain active regardless of your subscription status.

Cancellation confirmed?

If you were charged after cancellation, you may be eligible for a refund. See our refund guide for next steps.
